Year 4 Course Description:
In Year 4, students build upon their previous knowledge and develop more advanced skills in a range of subjects, preparing them for further academic and personal growth. The curriculum is designed to foster a deep understanding of core academic subjects, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Students will engage with various disciplines, including English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), Health and Physical Education (HPE), and The Arts.
Subjects and Syllabus:
English: The Year 4 English curriculum enhances students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities. Students will read and analyze a variety of texts, focusing on developing comprehension, vocabulary, and interpretation. They will improve their writing through structured tasks such as narrative and persuasive writing. Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and handwriting are also emphasized as part of their language development.
Mathematics: The Year 4 Mathematics curriculum deepens students' understanding of key mathematical concepts. They will explore multiplication and division, fractions and decimals, measurement (length, mass, time, and volume), geometry (shapes, symmetry, and angles), and data analysis (graphs and tables). Students will work on problem-solving strategies and apply their knowledge to real-life situations.
Science: The Science curriculum for Year 4 covers topics such as Earth and space sciences, physical sciences, and biological sciences. Students will explore the properties of materials, simple forces (such as gravity and magnetism), the water cycle, the solar system, and living things and their environments. Hands-on experiments and investigations help students develop critical thinking and scientific inquiry skills.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS): The Year 4 HASS curriculum explores Australian history, geography, and civics. Students will learn about early Australian settlement, Indigenous cultures, and the significance of historical events. They will study Australian geography, focusing on the environment, natural resources, and landforms. The curriculum also covers the concepts of citizenship, democracy, and community responsibility.
Health and Physical Education (HPE): In Year 4, HPE emphasizes the importance of physical fitness, team sports, and personal well-being. Students will participate in activities to improve their physical coordination, develop strategies for team-based games, and learn about nutrition, hygiene, and mental health. The focus is on developing healthy habits and an understanding of physical and emotional well-being.
The Arts: The Arts curriculum for Year 4 allows students to explore creativity through visual arts, music, drama, and dance. They will engage in hands-on projects such as painting, sculpture, and performance, learning the skills and techniques involved in each art form. Students will also explore the cultural significance of various artistic expressions, both locally and globally.
This comprehensive curriculum aims to foster well-rounded development in Year 4 students, helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
By the end of Year 4, students will have strengthened their literacy and numeracy skills, showing increased ability to analyze and interpret texts, perform calculations, and solve mathematical problems with greater accuracy. They will have a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and develop their skills in conducting experiments and applying the scientific method. Students will demonstrate a solid understanding of Australian history, geography, and civics, along with a greater appreciation for the cultural and social aspects of their community. In Health and Physical Education, students will be more confident in their physical abilities and knowledge of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Through their involvement in The Arts, students will exhibit creativity and self-expression across various artistic mediums. Overall, students will become more independent, critical thinkers who can apply their learning across subjects, take responsibility for their academic growth, and contribute positively to their school community.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
